Kumar are the recipients of the 2011 Sheth Foundation/Journal of Marketing Award for their article, “The Impact of Customer Relationship Characteristics on Profitable Lifetime Duration,” which appeared in the January 2003 issue of the Journal of Marketing – in recognition for its long term impact on the discipline.

Professors Werner Reinartz (U of Cologne) and Wolfgang Ulaga (IMD) have won the 2012 SYNTEC Prix Academic de la Recherche en Management (Academic Award for Research in Management) in the category “Marketing and Decision Sciences” for their article “Hybrid Offerings: How Manufacturing Firms Combine Goods and Services Successfully”, published in the Journal of Marketing, November 2011. The selection criteria for the award (total of 65 entries in 4 categories) are innovativeness of the idea, scientific rigor, and relevance towards concrete business challenges.

Prof Reinartz and his co-author Prof. Ulaga identify and define the corporate resources and capabilities required for successfully offering combinations of goods and services.

DHKProf. Werner Reinartz has been nominated to serve on the selection committee for the 2012 “Jan-Benedict Steenkamp Award for Long Term Impact”. The Steenkamp Award is given for a paper that has been published in the International Journal of Research in Marketing (IJRM) ten to fifteen years prior to the year the award is being presented. Through this prestigious award, IJRM and the European Marketing Academy (EMAC) aim to recognize exceptional contributions in academic marketing research, published in IJRM, which have demonstrated long-term impact.

Commemorating 150 years of cooperation, the Japanese-German Symposium will be held on September 9 at the University of Cologne. The Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences will organize a workshop “The evolution of trust: How trust is built up and destroyed in advanced society“. In this workshop, Professor Reinartz will speak on the role of trust in company-consumer relationships.
